## Pick the turning points, not the highlights

A map carries 5–8 milestones, so the question is not what to add but
what to leave out. The stops that work are the ones that changed something: the
day you met, the day you moved in, the day you left the country. A great holiday
is a highlight, not a turning point, and one stop can hold several of them.

- A baby on the way, due next year
- Grandchildren, as names on a family tree

## And the last stop

- The anniversary you are celebrating
- A “to be continued” arrow, every map ends with one

## How to word one

Each stop needs the event, the real place name and the date. "Met at The Alma,
Crystal Palace, 2016" gives the illustrator a building to draw. "Where we met"
gives them a generic one.
